Films: From Beyond (1986)
Alias: Dr. Edward Pretorius, Dr. Crawford Tillinghast, Eldritch Abominations
Type: Mystical
Location: Haunted home
Height/Weight: Ranges from that of an eel (the Possessor) to that of a small car (the Worm).
Affiliation: Neutral, leaning on Evil
Summary: Please, for the love of God, stop tampering with eldritch locations! If it has Lovecraft written all over it, chances are that it can only end in tears. Get it right!
History: Dr. Edward Pretorius made a fantastic discovery one day. With the help of his custom-made Resonator, he had touched upon a world that offered him sights no human had seen and pleasures that none had known before. But the catch was that it was really a gateway into a dimension filled with horrific monsters and powers and can warp a man completely. Pretorius gave into his desires, and soon his home became a horror show of abominations and evil, with him proudly in front and center.
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: The Resonator is turned on and off again, but it's finally destroyed when it gets exposed to a fire extinguisher, banishing most of the creatures. Pretorius and a mutated Crawford get blown up by a bomb meant to seal the deal.
Powers/Abilities: Warping of reality, conversion.
Weakness: Anything conventional, though ripping off a converted man's enlarged pineal gland can revert to normal.
Scariness Factor: 4-You'd better be thankful that the chaos was confined mostly to just that one house. The creatures that were summoned are horrible to look at, and violent as Hell. And Pretorius...well, how far gone can you possibly get?!
Trivia: -Much of the cast and crew of this film had previously worked on another Lovecraftian adaptation, "Re-Animator".
-You can actually hear the sounds of the Resonator being sampled in "Intergalactic" by the Beastie Boys. Yes Pretorius, that's where your life's work ultimately led…
